Modello ~ The Art Of Elegant Living

By Susan Boyce

“EXCELLENT… THIS KITCHEN IS EXCELLENT. Look at the fridge — it’s huge. And the living room is so wide — just like a house.” The woman in Modello’s just opened display home is positively glowing. She flashes me a broad smile. “I love it, don’t you?”

Her enthusiasm is contagious, and in no time it feels like we’re old friends. Spontaneously we both give a sigh of appreciation as we admire the frameless glass shower and dramatic black marble counter in the ensuite, agree there’s nothing quite like having a full-sized laundry room with built-in storage, and ponder the mysteries of why every developer doesn’t have the savvy to include a wine fridge as a standard.

“You have to take a look at this balcony,” she says stepping through the flush threshold and gesturing for me to follow. Sure enough, we’re standing in a full-sized outdoor living room with space for soft seating, an alfresco dining table, plus a party-sized barbeque. And because it’s fully covered — just like every Modello balcony is — this beauty is usable all year round. “You know, this developer built Jewel just up the road,” she says. “I should have bought there but I didn’t. I’m definitely not missing out this time.”

Raising the Bar
“Modello is hands down the most luxurious condominium residence in Burnaby,” says Alexa Paukkunen, director of sales and marketing for Magnum Projects. “Boffo Developments set a new standard when they built Jewel I and II, but Modello truly does ramp things up yet another notch.”

No kidding. Like my new friend from the display home, I was impressed by the finishing details at Jewel. At Modello, I’m astonished. Polished marble slab kitchen backsplash and bathtub surrounds, heated marble floor in the bathrooms, custom designed millwork and cabinetry, Miele appliances, plus thoughtful design that allows every suite to feel like a corner residence — Modello simply redefines elegance. And that’s not even starting to count the many above-and-beyond extras like Modello’s full-service concierge, hotel-inspired lounges, spa and fitness centre, plus fifth-level garden terraces ingeniously linked by a covered patio with outdoor fireplace and lounge. “When Boffo designed this 37-storey tower, the team really did ‘obsess about the details’,” Alexa says.

Eco Friendly Outlook
Ever aware of environmental stewardship, Boffo has also designed Modello to meet or exceed LEED standards — so you know your new home is going to be more than beautiful, it’s environmentally responsible too. “One feature buyers particularly like is the individually metered geothermal heating and cooling — a fantastic energy saver,” Alexa says. “We’ve also implemented extensive use of LED lighting throughout all common areas as well as each suite. Plus, there will be two electric vehicles with charging stations that are available exclusively to Modello homeowners.” Bonus.

Say Hello to Culture
Before I leave, Alexa has one final surprise to reveal, another landmark feature of this exceptional residence. “Modello will mark the entrance to the City of Burnaby’s new Beresford Art Walk,” Alexa explains pointing to where the scale model shows a proposed wine bar and art gallery as part of the building’s ground level commercial spaces. “The Art Walk will create a whole new focal point for this neighbourhood’s arts community, and Modello will be the gateway.”
