The sun rises before you do, the temperature goes up and down like a roller coaster and Girl Scout cookies are on sale…could it be? Yes, spring is nearly upon us and it’s time to switch out our seasonal decor. We’ve come up with seven quick fixes (no painting or remodeling required) to help you freshen up your living space.
1. Take part in spring cleaning: Although it’s an activity most of us loathe, starting the season with a clean slate provides some serious mental and physical health benefits. Focus on clearing away clutter — donate, sell or throw away items you no longer need or have a place for. Edit the accessories you have on display and store lesser-used items in drawers or containers.
Give your furniture and textiles a little TLC by washing slipcovers, removing stains and re-fluffing pillows and cushions. After a long winter of being trampled on by wet, snowy boots your floors could probably use some attention too. Invest in a bottle of hardwood floor polish or rent a carpet steam cleaner for the day.

2. Add some greenery: The ground might still be covered in snow, but decorating your home with plants is a great way to welcome spring. Cacti and succulents are especially popular this year, which is welcome news for those of us without a green thumb.

3. Switch up your textiles: During the winter, we tend to embrace heavier materials and darker colors. If you have the means, change out bedding, throw blankets, pillows, towels, tablecloths and curtains. Opt for vibrant hues and light-weight fabrics.

4. Rearrange the furniture: This is the easiest and most cost-effective way to give your space a fresh look. Scale and proportion are especially important — the size of your furniture should reflect the parameters of the room and the arrangement should look balanced. If you’re working with a large or open-concept space, establish zones to add character and function. Another simple decorating trick is to pull your furniture a few inches away from the walls; this creates a floating effect that feels less rigid and more inviting.

5. Play with color, prints and texture: Pantone’s Color Spring Report features both calming and vibrant hues, including rose quartz, snorkel blue, buttercup, lilac grey and green flash. Tropical prints are on everyone’s radar, combining natural materials with bold motifs like palms, fruit and florals. Geometric patterns and 3D textures remain popular, adding dimension and intrigue to a space.

6. Reimagine your vignettes: You know, those arrangements of knick knacks and collectibles you’ve set up on the fireplace mantle, side tables, bookshelves or any other flat surface. Be sure to vary the height of your objects, stick to odd numbers and layer from back to front. Hit up your local thrift store or a discount retailer like HomeGoods for accessories. A can of spray paint can do wonders to outdated or banged up treasures.

7. Swap out artwork: We’re not suggesting you commission entirely new works for your home, but if you have a gallery wall, look online for free printables, create some DIY art (like this colorful yarn hanging) or make an effort to print your Instagram photos.
